Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It stays within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers may collect routine technical information about the visit:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- IP address
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on viewed pages
- A referring site, when one exists
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as popular pages and points where visits end. A browser can be set to reject cookies, although doing so may alter how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Finding and repairing technical problems
- Understanding which resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Jackson County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to source records held by the sheriff, Jackson Circuit Court Clerk, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Department of Corrections, and Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or an individual criminal-history file.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to data entered there, and we do not control those terms. Review the relevant provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, law-enforcement agencies, Kentucky government pages, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's policy controls its collection of personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is governed by their policies.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query
- Advertising networks serving content
- A court, law-enforcement body, or government agency acting under valid legal authority
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such information was provided, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may give a visitor rights concerning personal data. Kentucky's Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs access to qualifying records held by public agencies, not data requests to this private site. KRS 17.150 and 502 KAR 30:060 separately limit dissemination of certain official criminal-history information. For data held by us, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal data we retain
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request deletion where applicable
- Object to certain processing where the law provides that choice
